Dancing with Cinderellas

First a shout out to Rachel Hammond who inspired me to begin a blog - or at least to attempt to keep a blog. I thoroughly enjoy reading the stories about her kids and feeling a little more connected into the life of my college roommate. I also appreciate her idea and desire to take a few minutes in the hectic scheme of life as a working mother to contemplate life and her family.

I'm not a scrapbooker, rarely do I remember to take pictures or write anything down, but I am at a computer for 8-10 hours of the day - so blogging seems a natural format for me to keep memories and thoughts of life with Prince Charming and 2 Cinderellas. I have therefore decided to follow Rachel's example or steal her idea (whichever you want to call it) and create a blog to reflect on life in the Young household.

It seems logical to begin this blog with an explanation of it's title: Dancing with Cinderellas, especially as it lends itself to what will probably be one of my most treasured memories about my older daughter. My life right now is one big Disney ballad. Literally. Grace (2 1/2), is in the throes of Disney princesses - the movies, the books, the coloring books, the magna doodle, the big girl underwear, the T-shirts, they are even on her pull-ups for crying out loud! She just loves 'em. She has one major song from each of her Disney movies that she recognizes. EVERY car ride is filled with: "Sing a song, Mommy" I then proceed to sing as much of the song as I can remember and the game is that she tells me what movie that is from. She knows songs from the "B-I-B-L-E" (Church) to "Life is a Highway" (Cars) to "A Whole New World" (Aladdin). And her favorite movie of all time to sing to - HAIRSPRAY (the new one with John Travolta) she loves it! These songs run through my mind - morning, noon, and night. If you think I'm kidding - just get inside my brain for a while - you'll see.

Grace has a Snow White costume that she loved to put on, almost daily in the month of April, and she would go up to Clint and say, "Dance with me Daddy" and they would twirl about in the living room. Lately the Snow White costume has been less frequent, but she and Clint still dance almost every day at some point.

Anyway, this scene then prompts me to think about the new song, "Cinderella", from Steven Curtis Chapman. Beautiful song - an obvious wedding and graduation song and perfectly timed for the season - but it's just beautiful. As Grace and Clint dance, I'll break forth with the chorus of "Cinderella" and serenade them and Grace now asks for the Cinderella song to be part of my repertoire. In years to come I will always remember our living room scene - Annie in my arms feeding or sleeping, and Clint and Grace dancing in the living room smiling and laughing and twirling.

Right now, my life is dancing with my Cinderellas. I am the mommy of two beautiful princesses -Gracie and Annie - and the task of raising them to be beautiful women of God in this world is quite daunting to me. I've posted the chorus of the song "Cinderella" here:

"So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms'
Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone"
