Mother's Day

Mother's Day this year was filled with running for us! All day Saturday and Sunday we were gone. Clint's sister and her family on Saturday/Jeff & Becky on Sunday. We are right here in the hub of Three Rivers with the grandmas which means we are pretty much committing the whole weekend to the celebration of Mother's Day, rather than just Sunday dinner. There are pros and cons to being the family that lives in the same town as BOTH sets of grandparents. The obvious perks are BABY-SITTERS at the tip of your fingers. Not just any baby-sitters - responsible baby-sitters, invested baby-sitters, FREE baby-sitters! Mom and Dad and Anita are generally open to baby-sitting for us whether it's on the spur of the moment, to help us out with our work schedule or whether it's been planned for a while. We really are very blessed to have awesome parents who actually get hurt feelings over who gets to baby-sit the most, etc...That's the biggest PERK. Another perk is not having to pack up the whole family when the holidays like Mother's Day roll around and cart everything off to a different house. We can just show up and come home for naps, etc...no uprooting involved. Which brings us to the perk of saving in gas for the trip! Good grief - 4.00 a gallon - whatever.

The biggest con is, and now that I've typed the previous paragraph, it seems really trivial and selfish, is that we are absolutely exhausted at the end of a weekend, trying to fit both sets of families and parents in the same weekend to celebrate the holiday. All day long at Clint's mom's house on Saturday so Grace can play with her cousins. Then all day long at Ric and Bone's house so we can spend quality time with Jeff & Becky. It's enjoyable, yet so exhausting. Reflecting on all of our perks though, I guess we are extremely blessed to have been able to spend Mother's Day with two mothers who truly love us and families who love and delight in our girls and want to see us. I am not even going to type in my original selfish thoughts of "when do we get to do what we want to do" and "I'm tired of bouncing to and fro," blah, blah, blah...

Well, I guess that's what reflections are for - to bring out what you should have been thinking about in the first place! I will say this though, I am so exhausted I'm not even sure this blog makes a lick of sense - so I'll sum up with:

Although I am extremely tired, I had a lovely Mother's Day 2008: Grace and Annie gave me a balloon that Grace spent most of the morning playing (and getting in to trouble) with and the Hairspray soundtrack. LOVE it! Let's hear it for Chubby Chicks! Roses were given at church to celebrate mothers and although Annie slept all day long, Gracie can't get enough of me at this stage in her life. Life is good.

Dan would give a loud "AMEN!" to your cons...we feel your pain. The holidays are enough to put us into hibernation -- when you live close, you're obligated to attend any and all parties.... But the perks are definitely good ones.
